Why should you learn to play the fiddle? What are fiddle lessons? What is fiddle music?

There are many reasons to learn to play the fiddle. Some people are drawn to the instrument because of its beautiful, rich sound and the wide range of musical styles that can be played on it. Others are attracted to the fiddle because it is an integral part of many traditional music cultures around the world, including bluegrass, country, Irish, Scottish, and many more.

The Butterfly (Slip Jigs) aka Óró a thaidhg a ghrá,

Fiddle lessons are typically private or group sessions in which a fiddle player, or fiddler, teaches students how to play the instrument. These lessons may cover topics such as proper posture, holding the bow, and playing techniques. Fiddle lessons may also include instruction on music theory, sight reading, and ear training.

Fiddle music is a broad term that refers to music played on the fiddle, a type of small, bowed string instrument. This includes a wide range of musical styles, including bluegrass, country, folk, Irish, Scottish, and many more. Fiddle music is often characterized by its fast tempos, complex melodies, and intricate bowing techniques, and it is often played as part of a group, such as a bluegrass band or a traditional Irish ensemble.

Accepting New Students on Mandolin or Fiddle

I am currently accepting new students on mandolin or fiddle.  I have openings on Wednesdays 11am-5pm.

I'm offering Lessons to all students, regardless of age or location online, and starting in May for fully vaccinated students, in person lessons and classes at my location in Granby.  Read this for more  information.

I teach a wide variety of stringed instruments: Violin and Fiddle, Mandolin-family, Irish Tenor Banjo, Irish Bouzouki, and Acoustic Guitar.  In addition, I offer viola, mandola, mandocello and octave mandolin lessons.

I specialize in various styles including fiddle (Bluegrass, Celtic, Irish, Cape Breton, Quebecois, Cajun, Jazz) and mandolin (Bluegrass, Celtic, Classical).

Lessons times generally speaking, are 11am-1pm and 3pm-5pm Eastern Time Monday - Wednesday.  Look for a post in the blog generally listed as "Fall" or "Spring" and the year.

Lessons start are generally 30 minutes long.  60 minute lessons are also available.  Please ask.  Turn on your Slack a couple minutes before it is your time and make sure you are logged in, otherwise you may miss your slot!

Online Lessons are very similar to local or in-person lessons.  The only difference is if you have a slow connection, there may be a slight delay in transmission, which can take a little getting used to.  This is very rare, however, as most people have high-speed connections and don't have a problem with delay or degradation.

Happy Father's Day from Sweet Music!

I'm going over to Downtown Sounds this afternoon. I have a fiddle student at 1pm, and then I'm going to have a late Father's Day lunch with Bina around 2:30. He likes burgers, so we'll probably go to Fitzwilly's. I don't want to miss the music at Joseph Blumenthal's 40th anniversary party, so we'll head over to Armory street around 5 for the festivities.
Have a happy father's day, dads!
