Frequently Asked Questions

❓ Who are you?

My name is Adam Sweet. I'm a professional musician, composer, and teacher based in Granby, Massachusetts. I've been teaching violin, mandolin, and guitar for over 40 years, and I run a private studio called Sweet Music. I also write and produce original music—both traditional and experimental—under my own name and under Sweet Songs, my music publishing label. You can find everything I do at linktr.ee/adamrsweet.

🎻 What kind of music lessons do you offer?

I teach private, one-hour lessons for violin, mandolin, and guitar, in person and online. My teaching focuses on traditional and roots-based styles, not classical. That means:

  • For violin, think Celtic, Irish trad, Appalachian, Atlantic folk styles.

  • For mandolin, we dive into bluegrass, old-time, and Americana.

  • For guitar, I teach flatpicking, rhythm, and accompaniment for folk and traditional tunes.

I also lead group classes like the Celtic ensemble on Thursday nights at my Granby studio. It's open to fiddlers ready to play in a group and perform at community events.

🧑‍🎤 Do you write custom songs?

Yes! I offer a songwriting service for individuals, couples, and businesses. Whether you want a personal love song, a tune about your hometown, or a custom jingle for your brand, I can write and record it for you. Pricing depends on length, production level, and rights usage. Contact me to start a conversation.

🎶 Where can I hear your music?

All my music is available for streaming and download on Bandcamp. You’ll find folk albums, bluegrass instrumentals, and even experimental electronic releases. I also post previews and behind-the-scenes content on YouTube, SoundCloud, and Rumble. You can find direct links on my Linktree.

🧠 What’s your teaching philosophy?

I believe music is a lifelong pursuit. My approach is informal, practical, and student-centered. You’ll learn to read music, understand the structure of tunes, and develop the skills to perform confidently—whether on stage or around the campfire.

💵 What does it cost?

  • Private lessons: One hour weekly, billed monthly. Contact me for current rates.

  • Group classes: Prices vary depending on the season.

  • Custom songs: Project-based. Let’s talk about what you’re looking for.

📍 Where are you located?

My home studio is in Granby, MA—just down the road from Amherst and South Hadley. I also teach online using Google Meet for students who live outside the area.

📅 How do I sign up?

The easiest way is to text me at (413) 213-5767 or email sweetmusic@mm.st. Let me know what you’re interested in—lessons, songwriting, collaborations, etc.—and I’ll get back to you quickly.

🤝 Are you available for events or collaborations?

Yes! I perform solo and with various ensembles, and I’m always open to musical collaborations, recording projects, and soundtrack work. Reach out and let’s make something happen.

If your question wasn’t answered here, just shoot me a message. I’m easy to reach and happy to chat.
